Description
The Chemex coffee maker was designed in 1939 by the famous inventor Peter J. Schlumbohm.
Drawing on his expertise in filtration and extraction, Schlumbohm created a vessel designed to produce the perfect cup of coffee. The angle of the drip spout, the thickness of the filter paper, and the venting chamber allow the coffee to brew within a specific time frame. Gases that are typically trapped in other brewing methods are released. The result is a smooth, less bitter coffee in under four minutes.
The Chemex coffee maker is made of laboratory-grade, heat-resistant borosilicate glass and features a simple wooden handle. The design has been included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
